LightBlue® — Bluetooth LE

About

LightBlue allows users to scan, connect to, and browse nearby Bluetooth Low Energy devices. It suits developers and hobbyists testing BLE peripherals. For example, it helps find a misplaced BLE tracker by showing its real-time signal strength, aiding in quick recovery.

What Stands Out

• •Scan for any BLE peripherals and view basic device information like name and RSSI at a glance.
• •Browse services and characteristics of connected BLE devices to understand their functionality.
• •Read and write data to BLE characteristics in various formats, facilitating device interaction and testing.
• •Register for notifications from BLE devices to receive real-time data updates.

Things to Consider

On Android M (6.0) and above, the app requires fine location access for BLE scanning to function, as mandated by the Android SDK. The app itself does not utilize or store user location data. No account creation or payment is mentioned for core functionality.

Useful Tips

1. 01Use the real-time RSSI reading to help locate nearby BLE devices, such as fitness trackers.
2. 02Enable notifications for a BLE device to monitor its data changes instantly.
3. 03Switch between hex and UTF-8 string formats when writing data to characteristics for compatibility.
4. 04Utilize the logging feature to record and share significant BLE events for debugging purposes.
